July 2, 2019 - Travel Day

It's 9:45 am and we're on our first leg of flights.  We were up early, 4 am, to catch our flight to DC, then to Brussels, and on to Portugal.   In the flurry of our last month closing down the shop and visit to Texas to see family, this trip was suddenly here and I didn't feel ready.

My normal "MO" would be to make reservations in Portugal for our first night, but decided we'd wing it on arrival.  Thought it would be fun to start this trip with no commitments.

Our packs are tight and loaded, but only about 15 pounds each.  I feel like I probably forgot something, but will deal with it as it goes.

8:12 AM, Brussels
Two flights down, slight delay on landing in DC.  DC to Brussels was long, 7+ hours.  Fortunately food and wine served along with movies, made the trip bearable.   Three hour layover in Brussels now.

John decided to try to take a nap before our last flight.

5:00 PM, Porto
Final flight down...we have arrived.  Took metro to downtown Porto.  Got a coffee and snack and started exploring. Lots of old big beautiful buildings.  Found a hostel close to the Cathedral de Porto where our Camino starts tomorrow.   Time to relax and take nap.

Scenes from our exploration today in Porto.
