July 16th - 9th walk day

Had a really good night at hostel.  We left hostel at 7am. Walked through end of town, then up the hills through woods and by streams. Very cool and comfortable.

My leg did pretty good until about 11.  We'd taken a few breaks, but by 11ish, it was starting to ache.  I put the compression sock on, more than anything the break helped.

The alternate route today was along a stream and it was beautiful.   About 2.5 miles of relaxing stream.

As we sat eating lunch just south of Pontevedra a Danish man came to retrieve his poles. He then came by with a coke and sat down to talk while we ate lunch.  Had a nice visit talking about work and family.

As we sat eating lunch, a group of about 100 kids with packs walking the Camino walked by.  All the kids had pads, so it appeared they were tent camping.  Crazy to see that many together.

Walked into Pontevedra and through the busy town on to our hotel - Hotel Don Pepe - a very dated establishment, but it was clean and we were glad to have a room.

John took nap and I took shower (are you noticing the pattern, shower is more urgent for me than nap). After John's shower we did major planning and booking for the remainder of the trip. Hostels, hotels, albergues, and bus.  Of the remaining days left, there were only 2 nights we couldn't book.  One of them included tomorrow night and that is an albergue, first come first served.  And in Valga, same situation.

We decided to go do laundry and eat.  Laundry only 5 min walk, glad we decided to do that.  Even though we've been hand washing our clothes, they didn't seem very fresh...lingering smell that hand washing wasn't getting out.  Machines in laundry had soap dispensed automatically.. .thought that was really cool.

Took laundry back to room, then went for dinner.  Plan for next day, get up at 5am and hit the trail.
